My work exists to appreciate the beauty and imperfections of the natural world. In my process, I find that the most spectacular ideas come from a place of curiosity, a desire to understand.
Shells, in particular, tell a story of the life lived by the creature it protected. Grown over the course of a lifetime, the parts we disregard, or even throw away at the end of a meal, are those most crucial to understanding the journey of the delicacy beneath the shells. Without the barnacles, the dents, and the dings, how would you know that what’s inside has been so perfectly preserved?
